Co-op Program

Students have the opportunity to:

  • Experience hands-on learning
  • "Test-drive" career options
  • Apply their classroom learning
  • Develop essential skills and habits that are required in the workplace
  • Gain valuable work experience to help build a resumé for post secondary programs as well as future employment

SBGHC offers a unique, well rounded approach in which Co-op students and staff members work together to ensure all participants gain maximum benefit from the program.

Each co-op placement will experience the following areas along with their discipline:

  • Housekeeping
  • Volunteer Services


Rotation options include:

  • Administration Rotation: Health Records, Human Resources, Registration, Finance, Health and Safety
  • Allied Health Rotation: Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Respiratory Therapy
  • Nutritional Rotation: Food Services-Dietary aide, Institutional cooking, Consulting Dietitian
  • Facilities Rotation: Electrical, General maintenance, Plumbing
  • Nursing Rotation: ER, Med/Surg, Birthing

Requirements:

  • Completion of grade 11 required
  • Administration Rotation: computer skills, good interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Allied Health Rotation: Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Math
  • Nutritional Rotation: Some food service experience would be an asset
  • Facilities Rotation: Interest in the area
  • Nursing Rotation: Biology and Chemistry
