The Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) was enacted to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the life of the province.
The ODA requires each hospital to prepare an accessibility plan and review it annually. The South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s Accessibility Plan was developed with community consultation in 2004 and continual improvements have been made each successive year to increase the accessibility of: the four hospital sites, policies, programs, practices and services for patients and their family members, staff, health care practitioners, volunteers and members of the community with disabilities.
During 2009 the current Accessibility Plan will be reviewed and an updated plan made available to the community by December 31, 2009.
