As part of our commitment to the health of patients, visitors and staff, SBGHC is going smoke-free.

Effective May 31, 2014, SBGHC will implement a Smoke Free Grounds policy, prohibiting smoking in all areas of the hospital and property, including the inside of buildings, exterior grounds, parking areas and vehicles.

A growing number of hospitals in Ontario are promoting healthier environments by becoming 100% smoke-free.  Grey Bruce Health Services will also be implementing the policy at their six hospital sites on May 31.

“As health care providers, it is our responsibility to model healthy behaviour,” says SBGHC President and CEO, Paul Rosebush.  “Smoke-free environments can support people who have been considering quitting smoking and help those who have quit maintain their accomplishment.”

Smoking cessation supports and resources have been put in place for staff and patients.

Tobacco use is still the number one cause of preventable disease and death in Ontario. Quitting smoking is the single most important change a person can make to improve their overall health and help to prevent chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke and cancer.
