Quality Improvement Plan

The Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA), which came into effect in June of 2010, requires all Ontario hospitals to create and make public an annual Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), setting targets aimed at making improvements in the areas of safety, effectiveness, access, patient-centeredness and integration.

South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) is accountable for achieving the targets outlined in our QIP and reporting to the public on our performance and plans for improvement.

Quality improvement is an ongoing priority for SBGHC; we continually strive to identify areas for improvement and enhance care for our patients.

How is the QIP developed?
SBGHC's Board of Directors and our Quality Committee are responsible for overseeing the development of our QIP. The members of our Board and the Quality Committee work closely with our community and with our team of health care professionals to determine areas where we are doing well and areas where we have room for improvement. From there, we set targets for the organization, which are reflected in the plan.

Can the QIP be used to help patients choose a hospital?
Patient safety and high quality care are longstanding priorities for our organization. The QIP does not change that. The plan is one way that we are keeping our focus on constantly doing better. You may want to talk to a member of your health care team about how we are doing in a specific area, but know that we strive to provide every patient with the best possible care.

What timeframe does the QIP cover?
QIPs are completed, submitted to the Ontario Health Quality Council and posted publicly annually at the start of each fiscal year, April 1st.
