How do I access this service?

A physician referral is required.

Where do I register for my laboratory work?

There are some lab tests that do need appointments. Patients should contact their closest lab to confirm instructions and the need for an appointment.

Please present at Central Registration upon arrival at the hospital. You will then be directed to the laboratory for your test.

Test Preparation

Please follow any preparations as advised by your physician (i.e. fasting). Test preparations are also indicated on the hospital laboratory request form. If you have any questions, please contact the laboratory.

Please note, SBGHC requisitions are not accepted for sample collection at private laboratory collection sites (medical clinics, LifeLabs, Gamma-Dynacare).

Billing for Uninsured Laboratory Tests:

Effective June 1, 2015, South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will begin billing patients for all uninsured laboratory tests.

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers the cost of most laboratory tests, however, there are some specialized, non-routine tests that are deemed uninsured.  To date, SBGHC has absorbed the cost for most uninsured tests, with the exception of AST, PSA and Vitamin D testing.  The organization is no longer in a financial position to continue with this practice, resulting in the new billing policy.

Our Laboratory requisition forms have been updated to include the cost associated with the uninsured tests. Payment is required at Registration before the collection will be taken.
