The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has announced that South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will receive a $2.3 million dollar Exceptional Circumstance Project Grant for infrastructure renewal in 2017-2018.

The funds will be used for ongoing infrastructure upgrades at the organization’s Kincardine site as well as for required repairs at the Walkerton, Chesley and Durham sites. Last year, a $3 million dollar Exceptional Circumstance Project Grant was received for Kincardine, which began the process of replacing the facility’s boilers, chillers and other essential equipment to ensure patient and staff comfort.

“Without this additional support from the Ministry of Health, managing the significant infrastructure needs and challenges that we experience with aging facilities with our base budget alone would be impossible,” explains Paul Rosebush, SBGHC President and CEO. “The funding we received last year brought us one step closer to realizing our vision of a redeveloped facility in Kincardine, and with this new allocation we will continue to press ahead with that important work. Our thanks are extended to the South West LHIN and the Ministry of Health for recognizing and responding to the needs across our four hospitals.”

An additional $484,175 in one-time funding was also allocated through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) for facility projects across the entire organization for 2017-2018.
