The Dr. R.J. Creighton Family Birthing Centre (FBC) supports over 400 families a year as they welcome their babies into the world. We strive to provide patient-centered care where the needs and wishes of our patients are respected and honoured. Our dedicated team of eight Family Physicians, two Midwifery groups, specially trained OB nurses, registered practical nurses, lactation consultants and social workers are here to support this process.

The FBC is located on the main floor of the SBGHC Walkerton Hospital. It is a secure, locked unit with six delivery suites where you and your family remain for your entire hospital stay. Each delivery suite has its own private en-suite bathroom with a bathtub/shower.

We provide one-to-one nursing care during your labour, 24-hour C-section coverage, as well as a wide range of labour pain management options, including comfort measures, nitrous oxide, parenteral narcotics and epidurals. We also provide postnatal follow up visits to ensure that parents and babies are transitioning well into their new roles and that infant feeding is going well.

If you are interested in delivering at the Family Birthing Centre, have your family physician or nurse practitioner fax a referral to the Walkerton OB Clinic.  If you do not have a family physician or nurse practitioner, you can contact the Walkerton OB Clinic directly and leave a message (phone calls and messages are answered on Tuesdays and Thursdays).  You may also choose to see a midwife for your obstetrical care and delivery (visit the links below for more information).

The OB Clinic is located on the second floor of the Walkerton hospital within the physician offices.
