President and CEO Appointment

South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) has appointed Michael Barrett as its new President and CEO.

Michael joined SBGHC in an interim position in August 2018 following the departure of the previous CEO, to provide leadership while the Board recruited for a replacement. After having been in the interim President and CEO position for 7 months, Michael has now agreed to stay, and will serve the hospital in the permanent President and CEO role.

Michael brings considerable experience to the role having served in several leadership positions over the course of his 29-year career. Michael was the CEO of the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) for 10 years, with responsibilities for over 150 health service providers across the LHIN. In this role, he also represented the Ontario LHINs in several provincial portfolios in areas such as Critical Care, Maternal and Child Health, Digital Health and Emergency Management. Prior to his LHIN role, he has also held other leadership positions with London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario, and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Michael has also been a dedicated volunteer for many years, including over 12 years with Ronald McDonald House Charities serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the Southwestern Ontario Chapter, and as a member of the National Canadian Board.

“We are very pleased that Michael has accepted this position,” explains Larry Allison, SBGHC Board Chair. “Since joining us in August, he has demonstrated tremendous leadership to the organization as we navigate through a challenging financial environment and significant change on the horizon for health care in the province. I am confident that Michael’s extensive experience as a health care leader will be an asset to our organization moving forward.”

“I am pleased to be joining SBGHC on a permanent basis. During my short time here, I have experienced a group of dedicated staff, volunteers, physicians and Board members who care deeply about the people they serve. This dedication has significantly influenced my decision to stay with SBGHC.” says Michael Barrett. “Although not without its challenges, the hospital is well positioned to continue to be a leader in the provision of high quality health care to the people living in the southern part of Grey and Bruce Counties.”
