Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker were on hand at South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s Chesley site on November 14 to tour the completion of a $2.75M infrastructure project to replace the facility’s air-handling units, and install a sprinkler system throughout the site. The project was completed on time and under budget.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care provided funding for this project through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF).

“I’m happy to see this project completed at South Bruce Grey Health Centre’s hospital in Chesley. This critical infrastructure will ensure the Chesley Hospital continues to deliver the highest quality health care services for our community. I’m particularly pleased with our government’s investment in this project through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund. This investment demonstrates our commitment to protecting and enhancing our world-class health care system,” said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

In addition, with local community investment from the Chesley & District Health Services Foundation, renovations have been completed to install new nurses’ stations in the emergency department and inpatient unit, add an accessible washroom to the waiting area, renovate the laboratory, refresh patient rooms with paint and new lighting, and create a safe room in the emergency department for mental health patients. Lindsay Manery, Chair of the Chesley & District Health Services Foundation, and Pamela Cookson, Foundation Coordinator, were also on hand to tour the completed renovations.

“This infrastructure project was money well spent,” said Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson. “Replacing the air-handling units along with the installation of a complete new sprinkler system enhances and improves the overall safety features at the Chesley site. I also want to congratulate the Chesley and District Health Services Foundation, and indeed the local community, for your fantastic support to the hospital. These changes and upgrades are an important addition to this facility."

“This substantial investment made by the provincial government and Chesley & District Health Services Foundation will ensure that this facility will be able to operate efficiently for years to come,” said John Gilbert, SBGHC Board Chair.
