How do I access this service?

A physician referral is required.  To book an appointment, please call one of the numbers listed above.

Test Preparation

• Do not take calcium supplements for 24 hours prior to BMD test.
• Please wear clothing without any metal buttons or zippers.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your physician referral, and a list of your medications.

Where do I register for my appointment?

Please present at Central Registration upon arrival at the hospital.  You will then be directed to the location of your appointment.

Follow-up Appointments

Low-risk patients (with a previous normal BMD) are limited to one exam every five years.

Moderate-risk patients (have risk factors but not on treatment plan) are limited to one exam every three to five years.

High-risk patients are limited to one exam every 12 months.

Any examinations done prior to these dates will not be covered by OHIP (patients will be required to pay for the exam themselves).

The radiologist and your physician will determine your risk factor. The booking clerk will ask for dates of any previous BMD testing when you are booking an appointment.

How do I access this service?

A physician referral is required.  Your referral will be sent directly to the DI department and an appointment will be scheduled. The physician who requested your CT scan will contact you regarding your appointment time and any preparation required.

Test Preparation

• Please follow any preparations as advised by your physician carefully. If you have any questions, please call the diagnostic imaging department listed above.
• Some CT scans require an injection of contrast through an IV.
• Continue to take medications on the day of your exam with a small sip of water.

How do I access this service?

Women aged 40 and over who have never had breast Cancer and have no concerning symptoms are eligible for screening without a physician referral through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP).  To book an appointment, please call one of the locations listed above.

For all other appointments, a physician referral is required.  If you received a requisition from your health care provider, please call one of the offices listed above to make an appointment.

• Wear a two-piece outfit

If children are accompanying you, please have someone available to be present with them during your exam.

Will my family or friend be allowed to view my obstetrical ultrasound?

Following a routine examination, during which all the pertinent and required information has been obtained, up to two other patient approved individuals may be invited to the ultrasound room to view the screen along with the patient.

If your exam is being done on an urgent basis, viewing may not be offered.
